some traditions, laws, make no sense
Here’s a story of questioning everything.
We’re watching Office Space, I got parts of it but never worked in a corporate environment. Dad was laughing his cola off the entire time. “Hmm, right, I noticed you didn’t turn in your TPS Report.” Dad is a TPS Report a law, a tradition or something that makes no sense? “Yes. Want an activity that falls into the tradition, law been doing it forever and makes total sense?”
“DON”T PEE ON THE RUG.”
We arrive in Cartagena, Colombia. Dog she love her beach, Dad loves his beer. We head for the surf. QUE??? Dad gets all panicky. None of beach bars serving alcohol. He shrugged “Seca Ley Twinkles.” Dad, what’s going on with amigo con cooler de cerveza? “He just got slapped with USD 100 multa (fine) handing them out like Halloween candy. Dad turns to his Chilean buddy, “You got this bullshit law too?” “Nope.”
Dad, what’s Seca Ley? “Dry Law.’ No alcohol around the ‘shoulders’ of election day. And it’s for every election, even voting for the Chief Dog Catcher. Don’t want gente all licquored up when voting for El Jefe. Been doing that forever. Costs a millions of tax dollars, casts a general pall on the nation.”
Dad, you are Hombre de Gente. Telling me the Colombian government doesn’t trust their Gente. “Yup, remember I told you you were ‘leashed for a reason.’
